LIVESTOCK RESEARCH STATION

Livestock Research Station (formerly Government Livestock Farm, Estt. 1964), Mamnoor, was transferred to Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University in the year 2009. Consequent to the bifurcation of the state of Andhra Pradesh and formation of Telangana, a new University in the name of P.V. Narsimha Rao Telangana Veterinary University was formed and this Research Station has come under its fold.

This station is mandated to cater to the needs of livestock farmers by production and supply of elite germplam (Dairy/Sheep); to act as a demonstration unit for improved fodder varieties and to take up relevant research and extension activities.

The Research Station is spread over an area of 389.53 acres and has two units - Murrah buffalo unit and Nellore brown sheep unit. The objective of this Research Station is to supply elite Murrah Bulls to farmers and Govt. Organisations and elite Nellore Brown Breeding Rams/Ram lambs for supply to Shepherds for upgrading their flocks. Also, to produce and supply high yielding fodder varieties like APBN-1, Co-4, Super napier etc., to the farmers to improve the nutritional status of livestock and to act as a model demonstration unit to impart training to farmers, self – help groups.
