Shearing is done mechanically either with a pair of scissors or poweroperated machines depending upon the size of operations.
Adult sheep should be shorn twice a year, i.e. March after the winter and October after the rains. However, it has been observed that farmers shear their flocks 3 times a year in arid and semi-arid regions to avoid thermal stress.
Lambs should be first shorn at 6 month of age and thereafter every six months.
Machine shearing is beneficial if large numbers of sheep are needed to be shorn, however, for a small venture, it is a costly affair.
