The Department was created in October, 1977 and post-graduate program was started in 1978. So far, 73 M.V.Sc. and 16 Ph.D. students got their degrees from this Department. A rabbit research center is attached to this Department. The Department has a state of the art molecular genetics and data analysis laboratory besides the general laboratory facilities. The Department has conducted extensive research in the areas of Cytogenetics, Molecular genetics and Breeding aspects of different livestock species.

  1. Preparation, Propagation and Supply of Low Cost Feed by Using Crop Residues and Agricultural by Products and their impact studies, RKVY, Rs. 9.14 Lakhs, 2014.

  1. Rabbit production for meat (ICAR).
  2. Cytogenetic and Molecular characterization of native breeds of livestock (RKVY, 2008-12).
  3. MHC Class II genes polymorphism in ongole & Deoni cattle genetic diversity status of disease resistance.
  4. Revolving fund project on (Rabbit production for meat Scheme).
